Open to ages 5-12 years old
We offer themed STEM Workshops throughout the year, typically around holidays and school breaks, that will keep your littles busy and engaged! Get the kids away from the screens and encourage them to invent, design, and engineer in a hands-on learning environment.
Activities vary based on the theme, participants will learn the various stages of the development lifecycle: planning, designing, building, and testing. Past projects have included making a ski jump, magnetic ice skating rink, catapults, flip-books, and more. We use various supplies including tin foil, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, marshmallows, magnets, paper-circuits, legos, etc. Many projects can be taken home at the end of the workshop.
We know that exposing our kids to STEM is important, but why? Among other reasons, activities based in STEM (or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) provide a way for kids to apply the things they learn in school. It helps them understand why it’s important to learn how to read, count, and measure. It gives them incentive to study and provides them a greater level of understanding of the math and science concepts.
Here are a few reasons why there is such an emphasis on STEM learning:
- Helps properly prepare kids for the digital age
- Encourages critical thinking and problem solving
- Promotes innovation and future entrepreneurism
- Reinforces the idea of learning as exciting and worthwhile
- Encourages teamwork, adaptation, and resilience (accepting that failure is part of learning)
